I observe aspects of African-American life expressed in the workforce, educational system, and family life, and incorporate it into my work. I interpret emotional identification—particularly the candid expressions and endearing gestures that unfold at social engagements—as indicators for the existence of complicated underlying issues concerning the black body. My work addresses the black family, but also extends to greater contexts of race and identity in America.
